What is ATV Riding How to ride it
ATV riding refers to driving an All-Terrain Vehicle, commonly called a quad bike. An ATV is a four-wheeled, off-road vehicle designed to handle sand dunes, rocky paths, and desert trails. It provides thrill-seekers with direct control of their ride, unlike guided dune buggies, making it a more personal desert adventure.
How Does an ATV Work?
An ATV is powered by a small but strong engine that drives wide, deep-tread tires. These tires grip the sand, allowing stability on uneven ground. Riders control the vehicle using handlebars like a motorbike, while sitting on a low, sturdy frame. The machine balances speed, torque, and handling, making it ideal for desert terrain.
How Do You Ride an ATV?
Beginners can quickly learn the basics with guided instructions. The steps include:
Mount the ATV properly – Sit upright with both feet on the footrests.
Start the engine – Most ATVs use electric start buttons.
Use the throttle carefully – Twist the handle or press the thumb lever to accelerate.
Balance your weight – Lean forward while climbing dunes and lean back while descending.
Brake smoothly – Use hand brakes or foot pedals to stop gradually, not abruptly.
What Safety Gear Do You Need?
ATV operators provide helmets and goggles for every rider. Additional gear such as gloves, long-sleeve shirts, and closed shoes are recommended to avoid sand burns and scratches. Following guide instructions is mandatory to ensure safety during desert tours.
Is a Driving License Required for ATV Riding?
No driving license is required for ATV riding in Dubai. However, participants must usually be 16 years or older to ride independently. Younger children may ride as passengers under supervision, depending on the tour operator’s safety policy.
What Are the Benefits of ATV Riding in the Desert?
ATV riding combines adventure with skill-based fun. It offers:
Freedom to explore short desert trails at your own pace
Training opportunities for off-road driving techniques
A controlled way to experience dune climbing and sandy turns
Accessibility for beginners and thrill for experienced riders
